25 Veterinary-Focused Social Media Posts for September

blog header

Use the following ideas to help you get inspired for your upcoming September social media posts!

Seasonal Veterinary Social Media Post Topics

Northern Hemisphere: Fall Safety

  • Toxic Fall Food Warning:

    • Graphic or Single Image: Share an infographic with all food items that are toxic to pets.

    • Reel or TikTok—"5 Toxic Fall Foods NOT to Give to Pets": Grab five toxic or harmful food items and show them individually on the screen with either a team member holding them or a stock image. Pair it with trendy audio or a clip that implies panic, trouble, or danger.

  • Fall Flea and Tick Prevention: Remind pet owners that fleas and ticks are still active in the fall and suggest prevention methods.

    • Graphic or Single Image: Make a graphic with a monthly reminder to refill or give flea and tick preventative medication. Or snap a picture of a team member checking a patient for fleas/ticks or holding your products for prevention.

    • Reel or TikTok— "Prepare for Invasion": Record a video of your team fleeing from an exam room or outdoors screaming, "The fleas are back!" with music that suggests a chase is on.

  • First Day of Fall Pet Photos

    • Graphic: Invite followers to share pictures of their pets enjoying the first day of fall in the comments. Works best on Facebook, since people can't share photos in the comments on Instagram.

    • Reel or TikTok— "Fall Patient Photo Shoot": You could share a photo slide show of the photos your clients submitted in your post from Facebook or show behind the scenes of you taking pictures of patients in front of your fall-themed photo backdrop in the clinic.

Southern Hemisphere (Spring-themed Content)

  • Spring Pet Allergies: Educate followers on common spring allergies in pets and how they can help alleviate symptoms.

    • Graphic: Share common signs of spring allergies pets may exhibit. Could make this into a carousel post and expand on each sign on seperate slides.

    • Reel or TikTok— "3 Common Signs of Allergies Your Pet May Be Showing": Gather a few short video clips (3-5 seconds) that show signs of pet allergies. You can record them with clinic patients or find generic videos on Canva. Add a trendy audio clip and text on the video to explain what people see.

  • Springtime Safety Tips: Educate pet owners on the dangers of springtime hazards like certain plants, fertilizers, and insecticides.

    • Graphic or Carousel: Share the tips you share with clients at their exams on a mini-infograph. Bonus posts for showing pictures of the items owners need to watch out for.

    • Reel or TikTok— "These WILL Harm Your Pet": Have a team member hold 3-5 items individually and explain why that item is dangerous to pets.

  • Spring Cleaning: Pet Edition: Share tips on how to keep homes clean and pet-friendly during spring cleaning, including pet-safe products.

    • Graphic or Carousel: Share a checklist of pet-safe products owners can use around their pets.

    • Reel or TikTok— "Safe Products To Use Around Pets: Spring Addition": Have a team member show off a collection of pet-safe cleaning products owners can use. Add a layer of fun by having your team mate simulate what each product does.

  • Share a fact about pain in animals that might shock your clients.

Popular Social Media Holidays To Focus On

Example social media post for National Ginger Cat Day from Vet Social Hub

September 1: Ginger Cat Awareness Month. On Facebook, ask pet owners to share photos or videos of their ginger kitties in the comments. This post idea won't work well on Instagram since users can't share pictures or videos in the comments.

September 5: Labor Day (US & Canada). If your clinic is closed, let your followers know a few days before and the day of. To ensure your clients know about your holiday hours, don't forget to send an email to your clients, too!

Example of Pet Memorial Day from Vet Social Hub

September 11: Pet Memorial Day. Ask pet owners to honor their beloved pets and share their favorite memories of a pet who has passed over the rainbow bridge.

September 12: National Day of Encouragement. Ask pet owners, "What is one bit of encouragement you wish you heard as a new pet owner?"

September 18-24: National Dog Week. On a graphic have it say, "Tell us you're a dog owner without telling us you are a dog owner!"

September 28: World Rabies Day. This is an excellent opportunity to remind people of how prevalent rabies in your area and what the signs of rabies are. Be sure to direct followers to contact their vet to get their pet's rabies vaccine updated.

You have the post ideas, now what?!

Searching for ideas and creating posts on the fly or at the last minute can be exhausting and stressful. Blog articles like this can be helpful, but they don't help you bring the post ideas to life and schedule them for you.

What if you had a system that would help you generate post ideas quickly, create more engaging posts, and help you save time by posting all within a couple of hours a month?

I developed a system while managing social media for my veterinary practice as a part-time Veterinary Assistant and full-time college student to help me save time, reduce stress, and even post MORE engaging content, all without adding more time to my schedule.

In under five hours, I can teach my system in my course, Veterinary Social Media Foundations. In this course, you'll learn how to manage your clinic's social media like a professional and feel confident that your posts will increase engagement and lead to more business in less time without the anxiety of remembering if you've posted today or not.

Join Veterinary Social Media Foundations today and gain the knowledge, tools, and support you need to succeed in your role with social media.
